What you're working toward

DeVry is a for-profit, HLC-accredited university filed under one Illinois ID

DeVry University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), which continued its accreditation in February 2025 after accepting a team report. Its Keller Graduate School of Management is part of that accreditation.

Scorecard and College Navigator file federal ID 482477 as DeVry University-Illinois, at its Lisle address. That ID carries DeVry’s national online enrollment: in fall 2024, 97% of its undergraduates took only online courses, and 93% of first-time undergraduates came from outside Illinois.

So every DeVry Scorecard and Navigator figure on this page covers that one ID, online students included. To run the same accreditation check on any school, use the five checks for whether an online school is legit.

DeVry charges $514 a credit hour for undergraduate programs

DeVry’s undergraduate tuition table, dated September 14, 2026, sets $514 per credit hour for its bachelor’s, associate and certificate programs. Tuition is the same online or on campus. Classes start every 8 weeks, and a full year is six sessions, or three semesters.

Tuition: 124 x $514$63,736
Fees$5,680
Textbook and equipment expense (DeVry’s average estimate)$1,600

Total program cost, as DeVry lists it$71,046

DeVry’s fees are $90 per course for course resources, a one-time $400 learning management system (LMS) access fee and a $60 student services charge each session. DeVry’s table sets the same $514 rate for its other bachelor’s, associate and certificate programs.

DeVry says up to 90 credit hours may transfer, depending on your program. New graduate students pay $776 per credit hour in DeVry’s traditional graduate degree and certificate programs, and active duty military and their spouses pay $250 per undergraduate credit.

DeVry’s $35,665 net price counts living costs on top of tuition

Scorecard lists $15,992 in tuition and fees for 2025-26, the same for students in every state. Net price is different: it is the full cost of attendance, housing and living costs included, minus grants and scholarships.

DeVry’s tuition page (checked October 25, 2026) estimates a full-time undergraduate year at $43,672. That is $15,532 in tuition and fees, $700 for books and supplies, $18,164 in living expenses, $3,080 for transportation and $6,196 in miscellaneous living expenses.

The average covers 782 full-time, first-time undergraduates who got federal aid in 2024-25, while 56% of DeVry undergraduates studied part-time in fall 2024. It barely moves with income, from $35,373 in the lowest band to $37,804 at $75,001 to $110,000.

75% of DeVry undergraduates had a Pell Grant in 2024-25, and for 2026-27 Pell pays up to $7,395 a year to eligible undergraduates. 81% took a federal loan in 2024-25. Your own aid depends on your income, family size and state, and the aid check estimates it from your answers.

Field names are the federal program categories Scorecard uses, not DeVry’s program titles. Earnings are medians for graduates who finished in 2017-18 and 2018-19, measured in 2022 and 2023 in 2024 dollars. Debt is the median federal loan balance of graduates who finished in 2022-23 and 2023-24, a different group.

Certificates fill three of the top six rows. The business master’s has the highest median debt in the list, $45,795. For computing degrees, compare online technology programs at other schools on the same Scorecard measures.

DeVry agreed to a $100 million FTC settlement over job-placement ads in 2016

In December 2016, DeVry University and its parent company agreed to a $100 million settlement of a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) lawsuit filed that January in federal court in the Central District of California. The defendants were DeVry Education Group Inc., DeVry University, Inc. and DeVry/New York Inc.

The FTC charged that DeVry’s ads claimed 90 percent of graduates actively seeking employment landed jobs in their field within six months of graduation. It also charged that DeVry claimed its bachelor’s graduates had 15 percent higher incomes one year after graduation than bachelor’s graduates of all other colleges or universities.

The order states: “Defendants neither admit nor deny any of the allegations in the Complaint, except as specifically stated in this Order.”

The settlement required DeVry to pay $49.4 million in cash for qualifying students and provide $50.6 million in debt relief, including $30.35 million in private loans it issued to undergraduates from September 2008 to September 2015.

The FTC says the order prohibits DeVry “from misrepresenting the likelihood that graduates will get a job as a result of their degree” and from “misrepresenting the compensation or compensation ranges that students or graduates have received or can be expected to receive.”

The FTC’s refunds page (May 2024) says it first mailed checks in July 2017 and has returned more than $49 million to former DeVry students.

  1. The FTC sues DeVry

FTC v. DeVry Education Group Inc. et al., Central District of California, over job-placement and income ads.

  2. The $100 million settlement is filed

$49.4 million in cash for qualifying students and $50.6 million in debt relief.

  3. Adtalem completes the transfer of DeVry

Cogswell Education, LLC takes full ownership.

  4. ED approves about 3,800 borrower defense claims

The claims came from DeVry and four other schools, nearly $131 million in discharges. ED finds that “DeVry made substantial misrepresentations about graduates’ job placement rates.”

  5. ED announces a collection proceeding

ED says it formally initiated a proceeding against DeVry for previously approved claims.

  6. The Secretary sends the proceeding back to an administrative law judge

The proceeding covers discharges for 649 borrowers. DeVry had sued in the Northern District of Illinois (No. 1:22-cv-05549) to block it. Our sources show no later outcome of either case.

The FTC said in February 2022 that ED would forgive $71.7 million in federal loans for “students deceived by the for-profit university.”

ED’s 2022 summary of its evidence found that DeVry counted “old jobs” held by its mid-career students and “improperly deemed graduates as inactive in their job search and thus excluded them.” It says: “When accounting for these two manipulations of the job placement rate, DeVry’s rate drops from ninety percent to less than fifty-eight percent.”

DeVry disputes ED’s findings. Its January 23, 2025 statement says the claims “relate to advertising from over a decade ago under prior ownership” and that “any allegation that DeVry misled students at any time is unsubstantiated and wrong.”

DeVry says it “has challenged the legality of the Department’s actions” through “an action pending in Federal Court.” ED’s May 2024 order places that lawsuit in federal court in the Northern District of Illinois, case No. 1:22-cv-05549.

Who DeVry fits, and the watch-outs

It fits if

  • You bring credits. DeVry says up to 90 credit hours may transfer, depending on your program, and 11,233 of the 28,046 undergraduates College Navigator counted in fall 2024 were transfer-in students.
  • You are a working adult studying online. 86% of undergraduates were 25 or older in fall 2023; in fall 2024, 56% studied part-time and 97% took only online courses.
  • You want business, health administration or computing. Those fields fill DeVry’s largest award counts in 2023-24.

Watch-outs

  • Most 2017-18 starters had no DeVry award after eight years. That was 72% of them.
  • The net price counts living costs. The 2024-25 average was $35,665, against $15,992 in tuition and fees for 2025-26.
  • Borrowing is common. 81% of undergraduates took a federal loan in 2024-25, and business bachelor’s graduates who finished in 2022-23 and 2023-24 owe a median $35,378.
  • The advertising record. The FTC case and ED’s 2022 findings were about job-placement claims, so check any job or pay figure a recruiter gives you against Scorecard.

Check your own aid before you apply to DeVry

DeVry’s averages describe what other students paid. The aid check applies the federal aid rules for the year you start (2026-27 or 2027-28) to your income and family, takes about two minutes and shows the result before any email or school contact. DeVry’s Student Finance office sets the actual offer.

To compare on the same measures, see Colorado Technical University (26% of 2017-18 starters earned an award within eight years; graduates who entered repayment in fiscal 2024 and 2025 owe a median $29,971) or Strayer University (15% and $39,188 on the same measures, for its Global Region ID), from College Scorecard’s October 2026 data.
